01 — About
I am a bioinformatics expert in Malaysia, based at the Institute of Systems Biology (INBIOSIS), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), where I lead the Intelligent Bioinformatics Lab (IBL). My work sits at the interface of biology and data science: I apply artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and statistical modelling to make sense of large-scale biological datasets.
The lab's current focus is insect genomics and systems biology — using next-generation sequencing and multi-omics to study insect genome organisation, metabolism, development, and adaptation. My main database is MPlanaBase — a genome and protein-structure resource for the bagworm Metisa plana, a major defoliating insect pest of oil palm. This builds on a broader background in comparative and functional genomics and multi-omics integration, including contributions to SuCComBase and PCOSBase (see Databases).
